Why did I love this story? Because a gnome spilt the blood of sewer trolls by the thimble full. The vanquishing of sewer trolls demands the respect of the good listeners of this podcast. By the way have you considered collecting these stories say as an ebook? These stories would look good displayed on my Kindle.
I do plan to collect these stories (and others not yet published) in eBook form in the near future. First I have to look into the nuts and bolts of the issue. I’m glad you enjoyed the story. The “thimble full” bit was actually a late addition I made during the recording process.
1. I thought the story was fantastic. You can tell that great care was taken with it, each word nurtured and polished until it shone like a new penny, despite the subject matter.
2. I really wish I’d known about the sewer troll attack prior to listening. I would have waited until after the podcast to eat breakfast.
3. I marvel at the fact that you are not only capable of doing math but are opting to take a college level math course voluntarily. It has always been my understanding that the kids who do well in math and science don’t do well in the creative arts because their thinking is too linear(I hope I’m using and spelling the word right). But you can do both…I know it seems weird and kind of lame of me, but I’m honestly impressed. Especially because long division and fractions still scare the living hell out of me.
re: Sugar-Chan
Those sentiments detailed in 3. are misconceptions at best. Multidisciplinary and experimental science require the consideration of all relevant possibilities until they are systematically proven not to be fact. The scientific method is probably the thing that makes you think that the thinking is stream-lined. As anecdotal evidence is all I can provide, I assure you myself and most of my peers enjoy a myriad of creative hobbies (guitar, woodworking, and videogame journalism to name a few). Do not let your fear of math inhibit you understanding, predicting, and rationalizing the world around you. Two words of advice: It your brain is hurting, you are learning and fear is the mind killer.
I hope these words find you well total stranger.
I swear while listening to this story the FIU bathrooms came to my mind.
Great story.

FIU Class of 1993
Yeah, the men’s bathroom in the main building of FIU was the inspiration for this story. Julian and I were always finding odd scraps of pornography, weird religious pamphlets, and strange graffitti in there. I suggested these things were placed there by tiny, supernatural sprites. Julian coined the term “porn gnomes”, and the story was born.
When you say the main building, do you mean University House or as it was later called the Graham Center?
